Behind the scenes: Creating The Indefatigable Sphinx

After working with Edward Carvalho-Monaghan on various designs since 2015 we were so excited to reveal our latest collaboration, The Indefatigable Sphinx, which has been two years in the making. 

This design was our most technically challenging yet and unlike any we have made before at Mr Jones Watches, testing the skills of our talented production team. 

Edward was inspired by the mystery of the sphinx when creating his design.

“A Sphinx, the master of riddles, inhabits an infinite plane where minerals calcify around arrows and the lacerated landscape drifts in place. We await a question and wonder how much time has passed in her realm, then start to ponder - are bowls of fruit even capable of asking us questions? Are such things possible in this place?”

The detail of the dial makes this watch truly unique, featuring 14 different colours which were all printed one by one, with the colours being mixed by hand in our workshop.

To add depth to the design, individual applied elements were created and fixed on to the dial. These elements all have different textures and finishes making the design extremely detailed. 

We were also excited to feature a custom made Swiss made Sellita SW200 movement which was designed by Christopher Ward in the design. 

The movement can be seen through the caseback making both the front and back of the design eye-catching.

Our assembly team worked extremely hard assembling 25 pieces of this tricky and intricate design by hand in our London workshop, it was definitely a labour of love!
